Unlike almost all other beaches that call the Maldives home, this slice of beach on Vaadhoo Island isn’t one that is meant to be enjoyed basking in the tropical sun. Instead, it comes alive once the sun bids farewell for the day. As darkness descends upon the beautiful archipelago, the bioluminescent plankton that inhabits the waters surrounding the island of Vaadhoo wash up on the golden-hued shores, turning it into what is called a “bioluminescent beach”. The breathtaking beauty of the natural phenomena is often described as a “sea of stars” and plays host to romantic evenings for many couples on the tropical islands.
