Penang Botanic Gardens

Also called the Waterfall Gardens, Penang Botanic Gardens are a green oasis located in Georgetown. Established by the British in 1884, the gardens are located at a site first created by Charles Curtis, the first superintendent and a passionate botanist. Rich biodiversity as the crowning feature, Penang Botanic Gardens are home to an array of flora and fauna, which makes it a haven for nature lovers. Sun Yat Sen Museum

Dedicated to Dr. Sun Yat Sen, a beloved revolutionary, Sun Yat Sen Museum is a popular attraction in Georgetown albeit less touristy. Dr. Sun Yat Sen is often referred to as the father of modern China, which is a testament to his revolutionary fervour. The museum is housed inside a heritage house, which was Dr. Sun’s base for his activism during the late 20th century. He used the mansion as his residence during his efforts to overthrow the Qing Dynasty. The building itself is a beautiful example of traditional Straits Eclectic architecture and holds a vast array of artefacts pertaining to Dr. Sun’s life – you’ll find photographs, personal belongings, and various documents. The museum also offers guided tours offering visitors an in-depth understanding of Penang’s history and Dr. Sun’s vision for China. Lagenda House and Café

Another popular yet less touristy place in Georgetown, Lagenda House and Café is popular for its authentic Malaysian dishes with modern touches. The café is appreciated for its intimate and cosy setting, which makes it an excellent place for both casual dining and special occasions. Portions are quite small relative to the price, but the quality and flavour justify the expense. If you’re looking for a dining spot to enjoy Malaysian food in a quaint and historically rich setting. Relative to other Clan Jetties, Lee Jetty is a bit less touristy. Offering a glimpse into the traditional Chinese communities in Penang, Lee Jetty is a historic waterfront settlement that forms part of the living heritage of George Town. With wooden walkways and rustic houses on stilts, Lee Jetty is one of the most photogenic spots in the town. Keep in mind that this is a residential area. Visitors are welcome to explore the area and enjoy themselves, but respecting privacy and peace of residents is a must.
