Humming with life and located between Kgale Hill and Oodi Hill, Gaborone is the economic metropolis and political hub of Botswana. Globally known as a premier wildlife destination, the city has many more key attractions to lure pleasure seekers.
The three Dikgosi, otherwise known as the three tribal leaders, is a mark of gratitude towards these noblemen for their service in bringing independence to Gaborone. In 1885 Sebele I, Bathoen I, and Khama III ventured to Britain to request the Queen to free them from the Bechuanaland Protectorate. The figures are made of bronze and are erected in Botswana Square, observing the city. Several disputes have arisen as some question whether these men should be considered as heroes as they brought the nation under British rule. Studies have shown that this monument is one of the top tourist attractions in Gaborone.
Sprawling over 5 sq km, the Gaborone Game Reserve is aimed at educating the public on wildlife conservation. Since picnicking, biking and hiking along the trails are allowed, this is an ideal place for a family outing. Take self-drive safaris and enjoy the park’s undisturbed natural appeal.
Nurturing and empowering creativity seems to be the key at Thapong Visual Arts Centre, a venue which celebrates unique and exquisitely crafted local artifacts. Spend a day of picnicking in the sun and enjoying rides with your family and loved ones in Gaborone’s premier amusement park.
