40-hour Online Security Guard Training

Enroll online and start your training in less than 2 minutes. Basic security guard training is required to obtain a security guard license.

40 hours of instruction covering topics like legal authorities, health and safety, communication, and emergency response. Also includes First Aid and CPR certification.

After completing the training, you must pass the ministry’s security guard test. The test is administered by Serco DES Inc. on behalf of the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

Once you pass the test, apply for your security guard license through ServiceOntario. This can be done online or by mail. You’ll need to provide your training and test completion documents, along with your personal information and a recent photo.
As part of the licensing process, you will need to undergo a criminal background check. This is to ensure that you do not have any convictions that would disqualify you from becoming a security guard.

Many security companies in Ontario hire regularly for various positions. Apply directly on their websites or through job fairs. Companies look for licensed guards, so having your license will make you a competitive candidate.
