Once the capital of Oman, the modern city of Nizwa is rich in culture and history. From stunning architectural hotspots to verdant mountain valleys and other cultural hotspots, there is a lot on offer for the intrepid traveller in Nizwa. Jebel Akhdar

Reverently called the Green Mountain of Nizwa, Jebel Akhdar is a beautiful mountainous region covered in lush green vegetation -hence the nickname. Here one can find an abundance of walnut and date plantations and orchards. Jebel Akhdar also happens to be home to rich wildlife such as leopards.  Interestingly the world’s best pomegranates are grown on the lush slopes of this mountain, so make sure to sample some. The best time to visit this attraction is between March and April.

Nizwa Souq

Keen to immerse yourself in the daily life of the locals, sample local cuisine and load up on some great souvenirs to take back home? Then consider visiting Nizwa Souq. Here one can not only shop for pottery, silver jewellery, and beautiful mosaic lamps, one can also take in ancient Oman architecture as well. This marketplace is renowned for its handicrafts and valuable antiques, thus attracting droves of tourists daily. When visiting do make it a point to dress modestly.

Tanuf Falls

Oman especially during the Summer time can be unbearably hot. If you happen to be visiting during this time, consider visiting Tanuf Falls to get away from the oppressive heat and enjoy the cool temperature and scenic beauty of the Tanuf Waterfalls. It’s a great spot to hike, enjoy picnics and if you’re up for it a refreshing dip! Sultan Qaboos Mosque

Renowned for its aesthetics, the Sultan Qaboos Mosque stands as a beloved representation of Islamic design. This mosque is the second largest place of Muslim worship in the city and can accommodate up to 10,500 visitors at once. Do keep in mind that non-Muslims should avoid visiting during prayer hours.

While shopping in a local souq certainly promises to be an experience of its on, those who are keen on enjoying contemporary amenities when it comes to retail, should stop by the Nizwa Mall.  Here one can find shops selling local and international brands, bowling alleys, an ice-skating rink and a gaming zone. Culinary wise, the mall is also home to plenty of chic cafes and popular restaurants.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Falaj Daris is the largest falaj or irrigation channel in Oman. It’s a great spot to visit especially if you have kids in tow, Here not only can visitors learn about the rich history of this attraction, they can also enjoy a picnic, swim in the channel, and simply kick back and relax.
