As a citizen you have the right to bear arms under the second amendment rights of the constitution. Though you may be surprised to discover you really can’t take a gun anywhere you’d like in Utah. According to Utah law, any secure area that has a sign or posting stating, “no guns” is enforced and off bounds. Even though it is a right to carry a gun for safety, some public places don’t allow them at all.
After our nations tragedy of 9/11 and countless terrorist attacks around the world, it is obvious guns are not allowed on planes. Some people believe that guns are not allowed in airports at all, but that is not the case. They can be checked safely in your luggage as long as it is unloaded and in a case, but it can not taken onto the plane as a carry on.
This includes courtrooms and post offices. Emotions are high during court cases of all types so it is believed best to restrict guns in any government setting for public safety.
Hospitals, doctor’s offices and even Utah state correctional facilities are all on the list of where guns cannot be. It can possibly violate the patients feeling of safety and also cause potential harm.
Students cannot take guns onto Utah school properties. It is not a surprise after multiple campus shootings that have occurred around our nation, it is restricted to keep students and facility safe. Permit carriers can take guns onto campuses, but students cannot. After all, those late night study sessions can make you go a little crazy.
In Utah, The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints does not allow guns in any “house of worship” this includes temples, office buildings, churches and church-owned college campuses like BYU and LDS Business College.
