Spending a night beneath a starry sky is a humbling experience, it is no wonder that people travel far to watch the spectacular sight of these sparkling beauties overhead, sometimes travelling thousands of miles to other countries to watch these unusual nightscapes like how loads of visitors keep arriving in Oman to do just that.

To these visitors, stargazing has become one of the top items on the list of things to do in Oman. Fortunately, there are many places in Oman where stargazing is possible such as the beaches, mountains, wadis, deserts and many more. As a country with no pollution visitors are fortunate to get a fine view of these amazing nightscapes from all these locations in Oman which is a remarkable experience.

 Stargazing at the beaches

There are a few beaches to do stargazing in Muscat, thus not only do they offer visitors great beachscapes during the day but also offer them great nightscapes of shining stars.

Al Qantab Beach – Situated on the northeastern coast of Oman, Qantab Beach provides a great stargazing experience against a clear night sky.

Al Qurum Beach – Situated in the plush neighbourhood of Qurum in the capital city of Muscat, this beach is a bustling site during the day filled with people and at night it becomes a popular site for stargazing.

Stargazing at Wadis

Wadi, the Arabic term for valley are places in Oman that are mostly dry though they fill with water during heavy showers. These wadis are used as venues for picnics in Oman when they are filled with water. Two such wadis provide excellent stargazing chances for visitors at night.

Wadi Kabir – Situated in the town of Ruwi in Northeastern Oman Wadi Kabir is a great stargazing site.

Wadi Tiwi – A journey of a little over 2 hours by car, Wadi Tiwi provides a spectacular stargazing experience for visitors.

Stargazing In mountains and cities

Certain regions in Oman are mountainous and some of these mountains and even cities are great locations for stargazing.

Al Hajar Mountain/Jebel Shams – Situated in Al Dakhliya, the mountain Al Hajar provides great stargazing views and the peak of Al Hajar mountain, Jebel Shams is a spectacular stargazing place apart from offering hours of pleasure for mountain and rock-climbing enthusiasts.

Nizwa City – Situated in Al Dhakliya, the ancient city of Nizwa is also a popular stargazing location.

Jebel Al Akdhar – Also in Al Dakhliya, Jebel Al Akdhar is known as the Green Mountain for its lush greenery. Jebel Al Akdhar is a great place for hiking and at night for stargazing.

Situated in the far eastern region of Oman, Al Sharqiya region offers beautiful desertscapes as well as beachscapes making this region a popular one for visitors looking for different yet unique experiences.

Al Wahiba Sands – This is one of the best deserts in all of Oman with its golden-hued sand enticing visitors to experience its beauty. This desert is another fantastic location for stargazing selected by most visitors to Oman booked at properties like Desert Nights Camp.

Ras Al Hadd – This is a beautiful beach in the Al Sharqiya region offering pleasure to loads of people during the day and providing great stargazing chances at night.
