Waterfalls in Mauritius to Witness the Precious Work of Nature!

Heading inland from the golden sands, which arguably attract almost all of Mauritius’ visitors, a host of waterfalls nestled in a tropical wonderland greet you, just as divine as the island’s fabled beaches. Unleash the avid explorer in you and savour the cascading glories of idyllic Mauritius.

1

Tamarind Falls - The breathtaking 7 cascades

The undisputed crown jewel of southwest Mauritius, the stunning 11 waterfalls that call the Tamarind Falls home make for an unmissable experience not just for travellers in the southwest but in the whole of the Indian Ocean island nation. The series of seven cataracts, hence the incredibly appealing moniker “7 cascades”, itself is brimming with splendour, but the surrounding lush greenery is also just as scenic and adds to a delightful experience. As breathtaking as it is, the Tamarind Falls isn’t the easiest to get to either, for it is nestled in some of the most untouched and unmarred territory of southwest Mauritius, making the trek to the falls also an adventure in itself.

2

Alexandra Falls - Picture-postcard indeed

Nestled in the sanctuary of the renowned Black River Gorges National Park and cascading from 700m above sea level, Alexandra Falls is literally one of those waterfalls that often finds itself on classic Mauritian postcards that portray the island’s awe-inspiring landscapes and sceneries. Unlike the aforementioned Tamarind Falls, getting to the waterfall isn’t as strenuous, and visitors are welcomed to a dedicated viewpoint, which affords stunning panoramic views of the falls and the surroundings.

3

Exil Waterfalls - Serenity in the far south

Oodles of nature and beauty await you at the serene Exil Waterfalls, nestled on the southernmost tip of the island nation and graced by the sprawling Combo Forest. While it may not be among the most popular attractions in Mauritius, the waterfall is undoubtedly breathtaking and is certainly worth a visit for all travellers in the south. After a day of revelling in the glories of tranquil nature, retreat to one of the island’s finest hotels or resorts the likes of Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas.

4

Mare Aux Joncs - Avid explorers appeased

Sharing montane forests with the aforementioned Alexandra Falls, Mare Aux Joncs is another waterfall that calls the island nation’s most fabled Black River Gorges National Park home. This is one for the truly adventurous, for as many past visitors to the falls have it, the trek to the waterfall is way more exciting than the falls itself. Set out on your adventure from the entrance to the scenic Riviere Noire and take your pick from the labyrinth of trails, depending on how much adventure your inner explorer craves.

Cascade De 500 Pieds - Abounding nature’s splendour under the radar

Among the whole host of waterfalls that call Mauritius home, Cascade De 500 Pieds is one of the least visited waterfalls on the island, yet absolutely brimming with nature’s splendour. For those vacationing in Chamouny and the vicinity, a visit to the serene falls will certainly be worth it, for it won’t be under the radar for long.
