Do a Tree Top Walk

An intriguing walk and the very first of its type Down Under, O’Reilly’s Tree Top Walk at Lamington National Park is a 180 m stretch of walk 15m above the ground. Supported by 9 suspension bridges, the walk is embraced with enthusiasm by intrepid travellers looking for adventure and excitement and booked at various Broadbeach hotels.

The walk takes you through a canopy of different kinds of trees and vines with sightings of birds and animals who call the park their home. The trail is not difficult and takes a little over 30 minutes to complete with many visitors enjoying it. No dogs are permitted on the walk, the trail is open all year and is free of charge.

Visit Museums or Art Galleries

With numerous Museums and Galleries showcasing the History and artistic talent of the Gold Coast region it is an enlightening experience to visit these places and they are open to all free of charge, some even provide tours of the museum or gallery.

Gold Coast Historic Museum is one such interesting place, having opened in 1972 at a location believed to have been a gathering point for Aboriginal people many centuries ago. The collection at this museum encapsulates many interesting items like cable station equipment used in 1902, a bikini collection worn during the 1950’s, various artefacts including those used by Aboriginal people, ancient photographs, newspapers of the Goad Coast area etc.

Have a view of the ancient steam engines, machinery and tools used for agriculture and timber industries of yesteryears. The early settlers' cottage and Vincent Sheldon Art Studio are additional attractions. The volunteers at the museum are friendly and will provide additional information if required.

Wander around Cascade Gardens

Situated by the side of Nerang River, Cascade Gardens is a favourite of guests using hotels like Avani Broadbeach Residences. It offers a delightful respite for visitors away from the highway to relax, unwind and even enjoy a picnic with friends and family.

Those nature lovers would be eager to do a stroll across the tranquil rainforest, while children have a large playground and an interactive sensory garden. There is no entrance fee charged at this oasis of green.

Gold Coast Art & Craft Markets – Broadbeach, Paradis Point, Coolangatta, Burleigh (The days vary)

Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets – Surfers Paradise Esplanade (Friday and Saturday 4 pm to 9 pm)

Swimming under waterfalls

A short drive from Currumbin is the beautiful Cougal Cascades, a bevy of waterfalls that offer plenty of chances to swim under the falls, enjoy the cool rock pools and spend a few hours of pleasure around water at no cost to you. Great break for a lazy afternoon.
