Stone Forest Geological Park

Also known as Shilin UNESCO Global Geological Park, this unusual park displays a distinctive landscape aesthetic due to the lime karst topography in the region. The various tall pillar-like lime karst formations can be witnessed stretched across the area resembling a field of stones in different shapes thus it is called the Stone Forest or Shilin. Some of them resemble animals and plants, some are more refined while others are rugged. The forest itself is in a scenic area of Kunming. Visiting Stone Forest should be top of the list of things to do in Kunming.

Yunnan Ethnic Village

Being the most ethnically diverse province of China, Yunnan has about 67 per cent Han Chinese people and the balance 37 per cent is a mix of ethnic minorities which is 25 minorities in all. The Golden Temple

This large and well-preserved Taoist Temple is situated on Mingfeng Hill which provides a scenic backdrop to the temple with evergreens, cypress, and pine trees. Founded in the early 17th century during the Ming Dynasty, the majestic temple is the most famous Taoist Temple in Yunnan Province. Approached by climbing up the mountain on winding stone steps and passing through three ornamental Heavenly Gates, one feels a sense of serenity and inner harmony as one enters the main hall. The columns, walls, roof tiles, the Buddha Statues etc. are made of burnished copper giving a golden glow to the temple and earning its name. Dianchi Lake 

Also known as Kunming Lake this scenic lake is situated at the base of Western Hills in Kunming. Flowing from an elevation of 1885 m with incredible landscape surrounding it Kunming Lake is referred to as the Pearl of the Plateau and is the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. Bordered by a mountainous area on the western side the lake reflects the dense green of the forests offering a soothing feeling.

Traditional fishermen go about their business on the lake. Visiting this lake is enriched by doing a boat ride that will offer good views and an appreciation of the beauty and the way of life around the lake.

Western Hill

 Well known for its stunning scenery encompassing the forests, blooms of different hues and utterly peaceful surroundings Western Hill is also called the Sleeping Beauty Hill because when viewed from the southwest of Kunming it resembles a maiden lying on her back by the side of Dianchi Lake. This hill is home to a large forest park with many captivating spots that visitors enjoy experiencing such as the Sanqing Pavillion and Dragon Gate, Huating Temple and Taihua Temple. Some of these spots even contain cultural relics.
