Wonky Words....

only I have been doing this for real. The sale of my old cottage in East Sussex completed at 9.30am this morning claps hands like an overexcited seal in possession of a packet of cod fish fingers, meanwhile I am still renting in Devon... BUT, I think I may have found somewhere lovely to buy...

BILL'S SPACE

Bill's Space is aimed at anyone who has a love of calligraphy, or lettering. Especially beginners and those who are having trouble getting started. Featuring videos and worksheets, links and articles, all with a bias toward art, calligraphy, lettering, and teacher's resources, and updated as new material comes to my notice.

Wishful Inking

Yes... I know... you came here looking for information on calligraphy, and were greeted by the front cover of The Joy of Scrapbooking. But despite what you're thinking, I haven't gone over to the dark side. I'm still a calligrapher, not a scrapbooker.

Letters In Stone

This article from the BBC News website shows just how important it is to check every word several times before you even think about putting chisel to stone. I have been in situations where a stone has been drawn out and ready to cut, only for a question to be raised about a capital letter or a hyphen and the start delayed by days while the answer is found.

ALL ABOUT LETTERING

Back in June I posted a brief item about signwriting based on a photo of a couple of guys I noticed hard at work in my town here in Australia (see here). I was delighted last night to catch on the local news a brief item about the work of a signwriter down in Newcastle, Australia by the name of Brett Piva ( see here for Brett's site).

Calligraphy Classes in Bangkok

Kit Johnson, one of my former students, sent me this picture of an improvised calligraphy table made from photography tripods and judging by the lettering here, it looks to work a treat.

Teucer Wilson's blog

I have been working on a stone to go outside the entrance to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. It is being commissioned by the Hospital Arts Project, in conjunction with the Organ Donation Department of the hospital. It is being carved out of a large block of Woodkirk stone form Yorkshire.

An Inkophile's Blog

After years of resistance, I am finally warming up to the color red. Call me biased, but red is not in my color wardrobe. However, last night I painted a birch tree and felt compelled to add a few red dots to the branches, leaves and a blush of it to the sky.

medievalfragments

By Jenny Weston This past June, a great news story was published about a set of Irish medieval manuscripts that helped a team of scientists study the relationship between volcanic eruptions (!) and changing climates.

Ellen Waldren

I love nonsense rhymes, and no one does it better than Edward Lear. This is the first verse of Mr and Mrs Spikky Sparrow. My inspiration for my little bird that sits alongside me checking my work.

calligraffia

For those of you who haven't found it already - yesterday Denis Brown uploaded to youtube a rather gorgeous offering - a short HD video - abstract calligraphy in snow.... and it's a gift for all to share (how nice is that?)

Inspired by Script

When I first received the phone call I did want to lol. You have to understand that I get a lot of calls, companies masking themselves as clients and trying to sell advertising that you don't need at prices you can't afford and this one was no different.

scribescribbling

Scribe Scribbling is an attempt by me, Ian the Green, to share what I am doing in the scribal world with others. I greatly appreciate comments and questions and while you're here please click on the rating you feel each post and page deserve. The background you are seeing is a picture I took of...
