The vibrant city-state has more than a few wildlife attractions to delight its many city travellers than one may think, but nothing is even nearly comparable to the metropolis’ undisputed crown jewel, the fantastic Singapore Zoo. It is one of the world’s first “free-ranging” zoos, where instead of conventional cages, animals are placed in meticulously designed and modelled artificial habitations that replicate different species’ natural habitats and environments. Moreover, it is also one of the finest rainforest zoos in the world, covering a sprawling 28 hectares on the outskirts of Upper Seletar Reservoir within Singapore’s heavily forested central catchment area. Nearly an incredible 3,000 animals, spanning over 300 native as well as exotic species, call the zoo home, including some of the world’s rarest animals, such as the exotic white tigers, the Hamadryas baboons and the world’s largest colony of orangutans.
