Top 7 Sydney's Iconic Landmarks to Explore-Beautiful Sydney at its best!

Originally known as Port Jackson, the area around Sydney Harbour is the central business and entertainment centre. Most of the sites around Sydney and the suburbs are accessible from the harbour via ferry ride. Here are some iconic sites you should visit while in Sydney.

1

Sydney Opera House

The Sydney Opera House is an iconic symbol of the city. Its beautiful and unique architecture is enhanced by the lively atmosphere, packed with great restaurants and street performers. The opera house is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was inaugurated as a landmark by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973. If you want to experience its grandeur inside out, don't forget to book a show for a theatre performance!

2

Circular Quay

Located facing the harbour, it is Sydney's central ferry terminal and just the place to start discovering the harbour area. The Quay is bordered by the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Royal Botanical Gardens from one end and the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the other. Towards the west, there is the Museum of Contemporary Art in the historically significant Rocks area. This area also has high-end restaurants and shopping options.

3

The Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a grand archway bridge in the heart of downtown Sydney. It was planned by a British firm of architects and presented to the public in 1932. It remains one of the longest-arch bridges in the world and a towering icon of Sydney. You can walk over the bridge; it will just take around 15 minutes, and the bridge climb is a top favourite for many adventure enthusiasts.

4

Manly Beach

This classic northern beach is a favourite for Sydney dwellers. Take the F1 ferry from Circular Quay, which is just a 30-minute ride to the suburb. You can view the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and city skyline on your journey to Manly. Manly is ideal for diving, snorkelling, sunning and people-watching. Nearby is Shelly Beach, which is less crowded and quite a lovely place to relax.

5

The Royal Botanic Gardens

A green oasis in the heart of the city is the Royal Botanic Gardens. It is rated as one of the most important botanical gardens in the world. Some of the attractions are extremely rare and centuries-old as the gardens boast some beautiful scenery with stretches of manicured gardens and flowers. With the Sydney Opera House at the back, you can sit back and watch the hours go by. The best part is that it's free for all visitors, and as one of the most expensive cities in the world, not many things come free here! The Rocks

Called the birthplace of Australia, this section in Sydney is now called the Rocks District and is the place of the original white settlement founded by Captain Arthur Phillip in 1788. The section highlights buildings built during colonial times. It also features more contemporary buildings designed to mix with the rest of the architecture. Visitors can also find a Sydney Tourist Center with drawings, maps and information about sites to visit in Sydney and regions in Australia in The Rocks. Apart from the history, there are a string of pubs, restaurants, novelty and souvenir shops all along its streets and corridors.

7

Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is a pleasant surfing spot, popular with locals and tourists. You can find plenty of locations to have a great meal and take in the glorious Sydney sun. This southern coastal area is perfect for swimming, surfing, wading or just strolling beside the beachfront boardwalk. Bondi is lively, fun and one of the best places to experience what life in Sydney is like.
