Student as the Creator

This listing is of student work in secondary mathematics. Each sample involves a meaningful use of technology.

Calculicious: Making Calculus Delicious

In this project student used a variety of technology tools to understand the mathematics found in famous artwork. The strong integration of technology included the use of Google SketchUp, Photoshop and a class blog for critique. These programs provided these students the tools to explore and display the mathematical concepts in ways that were not humanly possible without them. The class blog allowed the students the ability to communicate and discuss their project even when they were not in the classroom.

San Diego: A Story of Exploitation and Restoration

In this project students used various forms of technology to correlate many types of content and information. I was very impressed with how the project incorporated and connected many disciplines with the aid of the technology. The students conducted research and presented information using technological tools.

Math 9-12

This website provides a sample answer to a Geometry problem where students were required to use a program called GeoGebra to arrive at a solution and display the answer. At the bottom of the page there are 7 links that display how students solved the problem, ranging from novice to expert. The GeoGebra program is an invaluable technological tool that allows students to explore and solve geometric problems in ways that are not possible without the use of technology. I was impressed with how the students were able to utilize the program to arrive at a solution in multiple ways, then connect these methods to each other.
