Build Stairs Landing

When you build stairs, it may be necessary to install a staircase landing. Typically you use a staircase landing when you don't have enough room for a continuous stair run. You can also build stairs with a landing to correct half measures for the rise and run of the stairs.

Building a staircase, even a short one, isn't simple. It requires precise measurements and some careful calculations. From a technical standpoint, there's nothing particularly difficult about building stairs for a deck, porch or shed. Anyone with basic carpentry skills can make the necessary cuts and assemble the parts.

Measure from the bottom floor to the top floor including the floor joists and sub floor. This measurement helps us figure out how how high to make the risers. The best way to find the exact riser height is to divide the total rise measurement by 7.
