Moving is tough on families, and it's particularly stressful on dogs and cats. Animals always know when something's amiss, even if they can't understand exactly what's changing or why. The key to moving pets is to keep them secure before and during the move and to settle them safely and quickly into a routine afterward.
It is true that having a pet, such as a dog or a cat can reduce your stress. But, did you know that you could also reduce stress in your pet? The simple act of stroking your pet's fur actually has a calming effect on both of you.
You may think Fido's got it easy, but a dog's life is far more stressful than you might think. How - and why - you should help your dog relax. Stress. Everyone knows what it feels like. Tight shoulders. Headache. Insomnia. Upset stomach. Everyone knows what can trigger it.
Stress is not just a human problem. Pets are subject to all kinds of stresses: noise (TV, music, vacuum cleaner, blender, thunder, fireworks, yelling, screaming, crying babies, barking), overcrowding, new situations, renovations, moving house, confinement, teasing, PTSD, loss, boredom, rivalry, punishment, plane travel, allergies, health issues, fleas, mites, dermatological problems (itchy, sore skin).
