5 Waterfalls in Koh Samui - More to the tropical beach paradise than meets the eye

Koh Samui’s scores of bewitching beaches may put the island on the map for almost all its visitors, but the Southeast Asian nation’s trendsetting holiday destination is also home to a host of waterfalls that are just as fantastic as the turquoise waters and palm-fringed sands.

1

Na Muang Waterfall - Unequivocally the most popular

The 18-metre-high gorgeous natural treasure set about halfway between Nathon Bay and Lamai Beach is, without a doubt, the island’s most popular waterfall. The short walk from the car park means easy access to the falls, and visitors are greeted by a magnificent view of the waterfall. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pool, embark on a hike through the surrounding forest or simply take in the breathtaking nature’s creation right in front of you. The fall’s heavenly splendour, complemented by the jungle setting, make it a delightful day out for all — couples, families, groups and solo travellers. Be sure to grab a bite to eat or even a souvenir to take back home from the clutch of stalls on the way to the falls.

Na Muang 2 Waterfall - Enliven the avid adventurer

Na Muang is not just a single waterfall but is, in fact, two waterfalls. The second waterfall, Na Muang 2, is set about a kilometre-long trek away from the main falls. The trek to this waterfall isn’t the easiest and, therefore, is one for the truly adventurous. Nevertheless, Na Muang 2 is much more beautiful, cascading from a height of 80 metres, especially at the top of the falls, where summiteers are afforded mind-blowing mountainous scenery extending far into the distance.

3

Khao Yai Waterfall - Nature’s breathtaking splendour for all

Among all the waterfalls that call Koh Samui home, Khao Yai is the easiest to reach. Visitors can take a 4WD vehicle right up to the falls or channel the explorer in you and hike through the tropical forest. Even getting to the top of the waterfall is easy, thanks to the rather even and easy flight of stairs, allowing everyone to savour nature's breathtaking splendour.

4

Khun Si Waterfall - An adventurous treat for the adventurous soul

Unlike most other waterfalls on the Thai island, the trek to Khun Si Waterfall is more exciting than the falls itself, for it is not the easiest to reach. The courageous who are up for the adventure are taken through some of the most dense forests, brimming with nature, seclusion and tranquillity. At the end of one of the most adventurous treks on the island, visitors to the falls are greeted by a stunning view of Koh Phangan island — a sight sure to make the trek totally worth it.

5

Tan Rua Waterfall - Boundless serenity in mind-relaxing seclusion

Tan Rua Waterfall, also known as the Secret Falls, is one that’s aptly named, as the cliffs, trees and vines that surround the falls make the falls hard to find or reach. Treat yourself to a day of fun, nature and adventure and retreat to one of the finest luxury villas in Koh Samui the likes of Santiburi Koh Samui, and call it a day.
