How To Get to Ao Nang

.A resort town in the Krabi Province of southern Thailand Ao Nang boasts a long stretch of scenic Andaman Beachfront and serves as a bustling hub to reach many nearby islands with spectacular limestone cliffs, adventurous rock-climbing sites and dive sites using the traditional Thai longtail boats. Ao Nang is also a base for day trips undertaken in and around the Krabi area with many accommodation options from budget hotels to luxury resorts. Discover many ways of arriving in this charming city.

1

By Air

Arriving at KBV - The closest airport to Ao Nang is Krabi International Airport (KBV). Visitors bound for Ao Nang can use this airport to get to Krabi from other domestic airports in Thailand such as Bangkok, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Surat Thani, Phuket etc.

There are also direct international flights to KBV from the neighbouring countries of Malaysia and Singapore on flights operated by Air Asia or Tiger Air respectively. Visitors arriving from other countries need to arrive at any airport in Thailand using an international flight. These can be to Bangkok, Koh Samui, Pattaya, Phuket etc. and thereafter proceed to Krabi (KBV) and proceed to their chosen Ao Nang beach hotels.

Once you arrive in Krabi (KBV) the distance from KBV to Ao Nang is approximately 25 km and there are several ways to proceed from KBV to Ao Nang based on your budget and convenience.

2

Taxi from KBV

This is a good option although it can be costlier than other options, especially if you are travelling with others or arriving late in Krabi (KBV) and wish to proceed to your hotel immediately. The taxis are faster and more convenient for arriving visitors. These taxi services can be booked directly at KBV as you come out of the Arrivals Area and many visitors bound to hotels in Ao Nang such as Avani Ao Nang prefer this efficient service to arrive at the hotel without any hassle. As the rates are fixed no haggling is required. Usually, the charge is THB 600 for 03 passengers and a little over 1000THB more for a bigger taxi.

However, you can also book these taxi services directly from their site, such as 12go. Asia. When booked online the charges are slightly lower and the driver will hold up a sign with the passenger’s name in the Arrival Area. The taxi journey will take 40 minutes approximately.

3

Shuttle Bus

An economical way of getting from Krabi (KBV) to Ao Nang. It costs only THB 150 per person. This minivan has good seats and adequate leg space and can take up to 9 passengers apart from the driver. Once you purchase the ticket the staff on duty will provide directions to get to the Shuttle Service. Please ensure you have the hotel name and address written to show the bus driver so that you will be dropped off at the correct hotel.

A slight drawback in this economical arrangement is that the shuttle bus will depart only when it is full, and the trip takes longer as each passenger is dropped off at his/her hotel or in Krabi town thus the journey time is longer.

4

Grab Taxis

This is another convenient travel option from Krabi (KBV) to Ao Nang. The charges vary according to the time of request (peak times) and you can get one by using the Grab App. The Grab Taxi Service may take longer sometimes to get a driver confirmed as the fleet of vehicles is not so big in Krabi yet.

5

Songthaew

This is another cheap and available service. However, you need to get to use two different songthaew rides. First from KBV to Krabi City in one songthaew and take another songthaew from Krabi city to Ao Nang. This journey takes longer than using the direct Shuttle Bus Service from KBV to Ao Nang, so is not used widely.
