5 Reinvigorating Places To Visit In Habarana - Making an Epic Sri Lankan Vacation

Sri Lanka is a great place for a tropical vacation, and within this exotic country lies the town of Habarana, tranquil and quaint. From artificially constructed buildings and establishments to naturally beautiful places in the surroundings, you can find many things that make Habarana a pleasing place to be. It's places like this that boost a vacation from good to great, and makes for a great stop as part of your Sri Lanka travel itinerary, even amongst the various coastal and jungle destinations of the country.

1

Pidurangala Rock

Although not technically part of Habarana, its proximity to the area makes it valid enough to be included. A rocky outcrop that's about a 30-minute drive from the town, the Rock is a place for those with a taste of adventure with a hint of culture as well. Right before the peak, from which you can view Sigiriya Rock, lies an ancient Buddhist temple, and the ascent itself grants spectacular views.

Sigiriya

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lion Rock of Sri Lanka is both a historical marvel and a wonder of ancient Sri Lankan architecture. Its features include a magnificent fortress that makes use of the natural formations and also a temple complex within - the entrance guarded by a lion sculpture in ancient times. The feet of this lion are all that remains of the magnificent sculpture in modern times, however. Sigiriya has quite the enthralling history behind it - a story of regicide and betrayal, as well as one of deep culture intertwined with the religious history of the country.

3

Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium

For those intrepid sports enthusiasts, there's always the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium - a 60-acre, 30,000-seater stadium, and Sri Lanka's only dry-zone cricket stadium. Placed close to the Dambulla reservoir, the cool breeze from the same provides a refreshing air even in Sri Lanka's heat. Many people who stay in hotels in Habarana, Sri Lanka flock to this stadium to catch some cricket, one of the most played sports in the country, as well as acting as host to exhibition matches between countries when possible.

4

Habarana Lake

Considered one of Habarana's primary natural attractions, the lake is quite tranquil - there's a lot in the way of fauna, with birds and fish making an appearance all along the area. The path is great for strolling along, while the winds blow idly by - and you can even choose to avail yourself of an elephant ride around the area. The greenery is apparent and lush, adding to the beautiful natural surroundings.

5

Hurulu Forest Reserve

Granted a Biosphere Reserve status in 1977, the Hurulu Forest Reserve is gorgeous in appearance and bountiful in resources and nature. Considered one of the most important habitats for the Asian elephant in Sri Lanka, there is also a park within the reserve called the Hurulu Eco Park, which allows you to take a jeep safari to witness all the glorious species of creatures within its limits - all within relative reach of hotels such as the Cinnamon Lodge Habarana.
