Introduction

Visiting Singapore is an awesome experience not only for its natural and man-made wonders that make visitors want to come back, but also for the many conveniences a visitor can experience such as seamless travel facilities, vast public spaces, endless shopping, and extensive dining options.

Of the latter, Singapore’s Hawker Centres come right on top for serving scores of customers a delicious array of dishes all over the state daily at very reasonable rates earning them the high accolade of being added to UNESCO’s Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020.

These Hawker Centres are essentially bustling hubs full of food stalls and happy customers such as those using co living apartments in Singapore relishing their fare. Each stall may dish out a different speciality from satay to nasi lemak to the hot favourite ramen, juices, coffee and more.

A few handy hints

Around the Singapore city area, there are nearly 125 of these Hawker Centres operating as open-air food stalls offering Chinese, Malay, and Indian food catering to diverse cultures. Tables and chairs are laid out for casual eating and sharing a table is not unusual during busy times.

The aroma of food can be tantalizing as it is freshly prepared, whilst Chinese and Halal dishes are prepared almost side by side. The respective customers may enjoy them also side by side. These Hawker Centres are where the cultural mesh of Singapore comes together as they gather to eat as well as to connect. If the choice of food overwhelms you look out for the stalls drawing the biggest crowds.

Most of the hawker stalls work on a cash basis whilst some stalls (still only a few) accept card or digital payments and visitors from many hotels around Singapore City such as lyf Funan Singapore tend to visit these hawker centres to not only try out different dishes but also to get an understanding of the local culture.
