05 Exotic Wildlife In Maldives For A Thrilling Holiday In 2023

From beautiful islands offering a fusion of blue, white, and green seascapes as you indulge in the epitome of luxury of the tranquil resorts in the Maldives don’t fail to experience the abundance of exotic wildlife that awaits to make yours a thrilling holiday that you have been yearning for.

1

Turtles

The abundance of seawater makes sea turtles simply thrive in the Maldives with 05 of the seven known turtle species being seen in the waters around the archipelago. Of the five Leatherback Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles are seen in plenty. The turtles provide a basic link in marine ecosystems, such as the Leatherbacks eating large numbers of jellyfish to preserve the balance of these marine organisms. During the months of June to November, the female turtles lay eggs and you see turtles more often during this period as experienced by guests using best all inclusive resorts in Maldives. You might also be lucky to experience the thrill of witnessing baby turtles unsteadily making their way back into the sea when the eggs are hatched.

2

Birds

The Maldives provides the ideal environment for pelagic birds and the most ubiquitous ones are Pond Herons, Grey Herons, House Crows, Common Mynas, Striated Herons and so on which are mostly migratory birds from Europe to different parts of Asia. Due to the rich inland resources available in the Maldives Sandpipers who are ground feeders on insects, worms and coastal creatures as well as Black-naped Terns that feed around coral islets on small fish are also seen in numbers.

3

Reef and Marine Fish

The islands of the Maldives are spread around 26 atolls resembling a ringlike formation of corals around a lagoon. Almost 2000 species of fish reside within these coral reefs which provide hours of pleasure to eager divers and snorkelling enthusiasts who come from all over the world to be awed and inspired by the colourful spectacle underwater be it at dawn or dusk. Tilapia, Tuna, Parrotfish, Angelfish, Clownfish or other schools of fish you get to see in resorts such as Ozen Reserve Bolifushi are simply breathtaking.

4

Fruit Bats

Though you see them upside down with their webbed wings covering their heads during the day, the cheeky bats have their squabbles over fruit each night and are seen throughout the archipelago. The most endearing thing about these creatures is their expression, which is a mix of bewilderment and apparent curiosity, and many visitors like to capture that strange expression to carry memories of a different aspect of the exotic wildlife in the Maldives.

5

Whales and Dolphins

Maldives is an ideal destination to view both these types of creatures and experience the thrill associated with it. With over 90 species of whales in the world, about 14 species have been spotted in the Maldives. The best way to spot this giant mammal is by doing a day tour of whale watching. However, Dolphin watching is simpler and can be done by doing a boat ride further into the sea. You can easily spot the friendly and smart dolphins who would show some of their antics to you. While Spinner Dolphins can be seen more often Spotted Dolphins, Striped Dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins, and Rough-toothed Dolphins are also seen around the atolls in the Maldives.
