Situated in the heart of the city centre, this square is the historic location at which the Malaysian National Flag was hoisted on 31st August 1957 as Malaysia gained independence and ended the colonization. The flagpole is at a great 100 m height, the highest in the world. This famous landmark is a wireless communication tower 421 m tall where visitors get to enjoy a spectacular view from the observation deck on the tower. Built in 1897, designed in a combination of Arabic and Indian architecture this used to be the headquarters of the colonial government with an outstanding clock tower in the centre, nicknamed Big Ben of Malaysia. At present this majestic creation is the location of the Malaysian High Court.
An icon of Moorish Architecture, the entire station has been designed like a square castle in the midst of which lie the railway tracks. This classical Malay Building is the main museum of Malaysia being a storehouse of artefacts from different eras of Malaysian history. The exhibits also contain Chinese porcelain unearthed many centuries ago. There are ancient and antique Malay palaces in the open-air exhibit arena.
