5 Best Street Food Sanctuaries in Bangkok

Earning its reputation as the owner of some of the most delicious street foods in the world, Bangkok's street cuisine comes in many forms, shapes, flavours and colours - from hole-in-the-wall outlets to carts and kiosks. Interestingly, a lot of the food isn't Thai and can be international, representing the variety brought by its various denizens, reaching Indian cuisine as well as Muslim and Halal cuisine, to name a few.

1

Khao San Road

A haven for foreign tourists, the Khao San Road offers modest lodging and plenty of food, located in the heart of Bangkok's Old Town. Featuring dishes like the classic Pad Thai, dumplings, and spring rolls - and for the more adventurous - fried bugs. Consider beginning your food journey here, from your luxurious spot at a property like the Maitria Residence Rama 9 Bangkok.

2

Victory Monument

A major transportation hub at its core, the Victory Monument is also a popular corner to go get a snack - with restaurants, vendors and snacks peddling their wares on adjacent streets. The famous dish here is the "Boat Noodle", a Thai-style noodle with a spicy flavouring, made popular for its purchase usually on a boat. Being in the centre of transportation, you'll find this area within a reasonable distance of any service apartment in Bangkok.

3

Yaowarat

Yaowarat, better known as Chinatown, is one of Bangkok's oldest and most historic neighbourhoods featuring delicious food and with a reputation as a paradise for foodies and culture enthusiasts alike. Renowned for its seafood and Chinese-style dishes, amongst them being fishball noodles, chicken satays, noodles soups and other traditional Thai-chinese dishes. Some dishes have quite a long line ahead of them, so be prepared!

4

Silom Soi 20

The Silom Soi 20, translated to Silom 20 Alley, is a neighbourhood bursting to the seams with commerce and culture, holding such famous markets as the Soi Prachum and Talad Wat Kheak, where the streets reflect the multicultural setting of its people. With much Thai-Chinese cuisine, as well as Muslim and Indian influence making itself known, the stalls are open throughout the day for you to experience the various meats, noodles, and desserts on offer.

5

Petchaburi Soi 5

Another popular street food destination, the Petchaburi Soi 5 can be visited at any time - but is best experienced after daylight hours, when it gets lively under the moonlight. It's got a wide range of delicious food, and a thriving community that comes to enjoy said food together, giving you a glimpse of everything you'd like to see in a night market, a boutique of sights and sounds. It's also your chance to experience authentic Tom Yam at the restaurant Pe Aor.

6

Ari Neighbourhood

This addition could be considered the most recent, up-and-coming selection of street food, having newly gained a reputation amongst the populace. Here, you'll find street food as well as a range of upmarket restaurants, and breezy cafes to add to the charm and variety that you can find at other classic spots - thereby making it stand out just a little more. Fret not, as the dishes you seek will still likely be authentic, if a little more garish than you expect.
