Discover the top 5 things to do in Mozambique - A few tricks to turn in a beautiful country

A beach lover's delight -  that's the usual description of Mozambique. From Bazaruto to Maputo, the vibes of the country are ever-present, presenting vacation activities and excursions, natural sights, wildlife safaris (depending on where you go) and much more. There's an intercoastal charm and historical representations, all of it blending together to form a unique offering like no other.

1

Explore Gorongosa National Park

At the end of the Mozambique Civil War, efforts were taken to resettle the native species of the country into Gorongosa National Park, finally reopening in 2008. Now boasting an impressive reserve of animals, from elephants to lion herds, visitors can take in the creatures through a safari, which they can undertake on foot or by vehicle. However, this is but one of many extensive parks to be found within the country.

2

Take in Ilha de Mozambique

One of the most beautiful islands in Africa and one of the most meaningful heritage sites in Mozambique, the Ilha de Mozambique is historic and picturesque, containing wide, secluded beaches and colonial architecture with cool, shady avenues that do not see much in the way of tourist traffic. Add it to your list of things to do in Mozambique - along with the coastal town of Pemba.

3

Experience the charms of Maputo

Bustling nightlife is the least of the charms of the most interesting city in Mozambique! Take in the sights and scents of the colourful streets and markets of the city, as well as the impressive architecture by such geniuses as Gustav Eiffel, such as the Maputo Railway Station (considered by some to be the highlight and landmark of the city), and try out some delicious food at your choice of restaurant.

4

Swim with the Dolphins

If you're a fan of underwater critters, then there's plenty for you here. While you relax the hours away in a place like the Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort, there's a good chance you can find a place, especially in the Bazaruto and Quirimbas archipelagos, that takes you out to see dolphins and other denizens of the sea, making for an incredibly memorable maritime adventure under your belt.

5

Enjoy safaris at the Niassa Game Reserve

If you want more time in the sun, integrating with nature and all the exciting animals of the country, you could always stop by the Niassa Game Reserve to see the buffaloes, lions, elephants, and all sorts of predators and prey that stalk the grasses and trees, and though the area is quite scenic already, it is considered underdeveloped - so it's really a wild and untouched paradise for you.

6

Visit the Tofo Fishing Village for diving

Dreamy and reclusive, the village of Tofo offers you the chance to dive to the depths to witness what lies below - and is a bit of an open secret amongst divers as one of the most tranquil spots in the world, as there are no other places in the country to find whale sharks and manta rays in such abundance and constantly throughout.
