Windhoek despite being one of Africa’s cleanest cities is not thought to be a tourist destination. However, being the entry and exit point into Namibia, many tourists stop by here and find that there are plenty of places to see and things to do.

Alte Fest

An important landmark dedicated to Nambian independence; Alte Feste is an old Germanic fortress that has been converted into a fascinating museum well worth a visit. The attraction also known as the Old Fort, also happens to be the oldest city in Windhoek as well. During its heyday, this fortress was once the garrison of German colonial troops who arrived in the country. Alte Feste can be easily reached from hotels such as the likes of Avani Windhoek Hotel and Casino, thought to be the best place to stay in Nambia.

Christuskirche

Featuring an Art Nouveau style and replete with beautiful stained-glass windows, Christuskirche – or the Christ Church as it is also known, is a historic Lutheran Church and also happens to be one of the top attractions to take in Windhoek. Visiting Christ Church and taking it in while on a guided tour is highly recommended.

Tintenpalast

Featuring a neoclassic front façade designed by the famed German architect Gottlieb Redecker, Tintenpalast houses the country’s parliament and national council. Tintenpalast means Ink Palace and was built by the Nama and Herero tribes of Namibia.

Sitting just outside Windhoek city at the foot of the magnificent Eros Mountain is the Elisenheim Guest Farm, where one can enjoy a spot of horseback riding. Three Circles

Also known as Lover’s Hill, Three Circles is a great location to head to especially at the close of the day in time for sunset. Made up of three massive stone slabs, this popular lookout point, Three Circles offer phenomenal views of the sprawling city of Windhoek. Do note that one will be required to climb a sizeable hill to reach the viewing platform.
