5 Best Night Markets in Siem Reap - Shop, Dine and Vibe

Renowned for its downtown charm, Siem Reap is a hub for remarkable night markets, clustered in its central area. Operating daily, these lively markets are ideal to shop for genuine Cambodian artistry, and these are some of the best markets you can visit.

1

Angkor Night Markets

Nestled near Sivatha Boulevard in Siem Reap, the Angkor Night Market is a vibrant shopping destination comprised of more than 200 bamboo stalls. These stalls showcase an extensive array of clothing and handicrafts created by local communities and non-governmental organizations. Originating in 2007 with a dual purpose of preserving traditional Khmer crafts and contributing to the livelihoods of Khmer residents, this open-air marketplace showcases unique items such as shadow puppets, silk paintings, recycled material handbags, and beautifully adorned stone carvings made with silver or brass embellishments.

2

Old Market (Phsar Chas)

As the name suggests, Phsar Chas is the oldest market in Siem Reap, where the Khmer locals get their shopping done daily. Visitors can hunt for goods such as clothing, jewellery and shoes, all for bargain prices. If your shopping craze made you hungry, head over to the heart of the Old Market to try out authentic Cambodian dishes, including soups, various rice dishes, pork sausages and dried fish meals.

3

Made in Cambodia Market

The place to head to if you want live music and dance while you shop for souvenirs and enjoy delicious food. Located close to popular resorts such as Anantara Angkor Resort, the market is open every Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday and you can find clothing and jewellery of great quality in the shops. Of course, this means the market is pricier than the others, but the uniqueness of the items makes up for the impending spending spree. A worthy purchase at the market would be the Sombai rice spirits, a drink that contains an infusion of mangoes, cinnamon, star anise and red chillies.

4

Angkor Handicraft Association

A great spot to see the creative displays of the local artisans of Siem Reap. Things to do here include workshops in traditional Khmer crafting, as well as 12 different activities to pursue in the Traing Village, such as flute making and coconut carving, hosted by the Angkor Handicraft Association. You can also find locally made silk, bronze statues and unique paintings at the fair-trade market.

5

Noon Night Market

Located between Sivutha Boulevard and Angkor Night Market, the Noon Night Market is one with wholesome intentions, where you can find a wide range of souvenirs and sculpted works in its shops. The market donates 10% of its profits to a local orphanage in a touching gesture, and you can be satisfied your purchase goes to a good cause as well. The paths along the market are lit up by lamps for your convenience, and accompanied by fans to fight the infamous Cambodian heat. As is the case with any Cambodian market, it ensures you never go hungry, with local restaurants serving up delicious Khmer cuisines such as lok lak, fish amok, and deep-fried spring rolls to keep you full and satisfied.
