Must-visit Places in Pasikudah - A favourable coastal city

On Sri Lanka's east coast is the lovely coastal town of Pasikuda. Travellers seeking a peaceful retreat frequently visit this calm city because of its stunning coral reefs and beaches with crystal-clear blue waters. Here are some must-visit places in Pasikudah.

1

Pasikudah Beach

The beach runs for nearly 4 kilometres, giving visitors plenty of room to run around and relax. Because of the shallow waters, it is ideal for swimming and water activities such as snorkelling and kayaking. Pasikuda also has various luxury resorts such as Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa, with a variety of services such as spas, restaurants, and bars. However, almost any Pasikuda hotel will be within close reach of the beach! The ideal time to visit Pasikudah Beach is between April and September; this is when the weather is truly at its peak, not too hot, but just right!

Batticaloa Lagoon

As one of the largest lagoons in Sri Lanka, this site is a must-visit. While Pasikudah is home to numerous fantastic beaches, this lagoon is one of a kind, and it separates Batticaloa from the Indian Ocean. This stunning body of water is surrounded by foliage and is home to a variety of flora and wildlife, a must-see for lovers of nature. The lagoon stretches for 56 kilometres, covering an area of 110 square kilometres. Its calm waters are ideal for fishing, boating and even kayaking. You can rent boats and explore the lagoon, soaking in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you. Birdwatching is very popular at Batticaloa Lagoon, so take a pair of binoculars with you, and your photography gear too!

Batticaloa Lighthouse

The Batticaloa Lighthouse is an iconic landmark, which is also a piece of history, having guided sailors to safety for nearly a century. The lighthouse, which stands 28 metres tall, provides panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and the neighbouring coastal communities. The Batticaloa Lighthouse was built by the British in 1913 and assisted ships going through the dangerous waters of the Bay of Bengal as navigational aid. Today, not only is the lighthouse a symbol of the island's colonial legacy, it is a major tourist attraction for travellers from all over the world.

Kalkudah Beach

A serene beach, Kalkudah beach is for those who enjoy beaches which are peaceful, calm and relaxing. One of Kalkudah Beach's biggest draws is its calm and shallow waves, which make it ideal for swimming and other water activities, which is perfect for families, especially little kids that love splashing around. The beach is also famous for its stunning coral reefs, drawing scuba divers and snorkelers. Several tiny cafes and restaurants serve delectable local cuisine, and there are a few small shops where visitors can buy souvenirs to take back home.

5

Batticaloa Fort

This is a site built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. The fort has played an essential part in Sri Lankan history, serving as a military base for colonial powers. The fort now serves as a tribute to Sri Lanka's rich and varied history and continues to attract people from all over the island and the world.
