This one is a gem you can't afford to miss. Built around the 1500s, the Old Friday Mosques or Hukuru Miskiiy is the oldest shrine on the archipelago. Go there to step back in time and marvel at the beauty of vintage architecture. The walls of the mosque are constructed from pink coral and adorned with Arabic inscriptions. The doors and window frames boast intricate and beautiful wood carvings while the old cemetery at the back is a treat to explore; walk among the graves and you will discover they are the final resting place for many a king, queen, sultan and national hero that helped shape and mould the Maldives into the nation it is today.
