While Sigiriya remains the biggest attraction in the vicinity of Polonnaruwa, the city itself is full of historical heritage, most notably the Parakrama Samudra dam. Built by King Parakramabahu, he is honoured for his efforts with a towering statue by the dam, near comfortable hotels such as Hotel Sudu Araliya, so it's an easy trip for you.
