Botanical Gardens in Sri Lanka

As a tropical nation, Sri Lanka is blessed with several botanical gardens dedicated towards the preservation of thousands of floral species. These gardens, with their lush and verdant settings, are on display throughout the year, and visitors can roam around immersed in their sheer beauty for hours. They can explore several varieties of rare flower types, ancient trees and even some medicinal plants used in the traditional "Ayurvedic" healing practices. Arguably the most popular garden in the country is the exquisite Peradeniya Botanical Garden, which houses exotic types of orchids, presenting a colourful spectacle to visitors. The most intriguing element of the garden is its massive Javan fig tree, which extends its branches across a large area, providing shade and a great spot for relaxation. Similarly, the Hakgala Botanical Garden, situated close to several luxury boutique hotels in Nuwara Eliya such as the Langdale Boutique Hotel, have incredible floral vistas, while its biggest attraction is the monumental Hakgala rock, which hugs most of the gardens landscape.
