The 05 Most Adventurous Things to Do in the Maldives - Retreat To a Slice of Paradise

As you may expect, most activities you can pursue in the Maldives are water-based. With waters stretching as far as the eyes can wander, this archipelago has plenty of fun waiting for you. Here are the 5 best things to do in the Maldives.

1

Scuba Dive

It is no surprise that scuba diving is among the most popular activities in Maldives, being surrounded by stunning coral reefs that are home to thousands and thousands of marine creatures, both flora and fauna. The well-nurtured reefs often attract giant sea creatures such as sharks and manta rays, with hammerhead sightings very popular during the period from December to March, which is the migration season for them. Spots like Rasdhoo Atoll are especially popular for hammerhead-watching. Resorts such as Atmosphere Kanifushi provide PADI-licensed diving instructors for your convenience as well.

2

Surf's Up

Surrounded by some of the best surf breaks in the world, it would be a shame if you miss out on catching a good wave or two. While the lagoon has calm waters, the waves beyond it are what gets interesting. You could sign up for some surf lessons if you're new to the experience, or venture into the waters by yourself if you're more seasoned. For some extra spice to your surfing adventure, try kite surfing, an excursion that requires more guile and control, as the tropical winds take over your board and kite, and it is up to you to navigate well.

3

Flyboarding

One of the newer sports to come out of human ingeniousness, flyboarding involves being attached to your feet with a hose connected to it. When the pressure of the water in the hose is turned up, it will boost you several feet high in the air. It may be tough at first, but with a bit of practice, you'll be able to handle yourself quite well, and eventually do some mid-air trickery to impress the fascinated onlookers that will surely be there.

4

Parasail over the Lagoon

What could be better than gazing at the incredible vistas of this remote nation while the sea breeze rustles alongside you, bringing the comforting smell of the ocean with it? Parasailing offers exactly that, with a gorgeous view of the blue waters and white sands. Although you can parasail throughout the year, November to May provides calmer winds, so you don't have to worry about any sudden turbulences.

5

Seaplane Ride

This may not be the smooth, unproblematic ride that you'll be expecting, but the roughness of the ride is part of what makes it so exhilarating. It is also one of the main modes of transport across the 1100+ islands that make up the Maldives, so you may have to encounter them at one point or the other. These flights don't fly higher than 10,000 feet, therefore gazing out of its windows gives you the chance to see some incredible sights as well. Just bring along your best noise-cancelling earphones to drown out the noises of the engines.
