While it may not be one of Koh Samui's most popular beaches, Lipa Noi Beach is arguably one of the finest beaches on the island. Perfectly suited for those in search of off-the-beaten-track locations that are known to locals and a few seasoned visitors, the beach is also one of the top venues to catch the sunset every evening. Occupying pride of place on the western shores of Koh Samui, Lipa Noi Beach is also ideal for swimming and for long walks with loved ones. Family-friendly and free from hawker stalls and other distractions, the shallow waters are coral and rock-free so kids can also venture into the water.
Tipped to be one of the best beaches on the island, Silver Beach's reputation precedes itself. Considered a wonderful spot for not only sunbathing and working on one's tan but also for engaging in swimming activities, Silver Beach is another snorkelling hub in Koh Samui. With its underwater landscapes teeming with tiny fish, this white, sandy piece of paradise also affords privacy thanks to the rocks and boulders encircling its periphery. As another well-known beach in Koh Samui, Chaweng Beach is located in one of the most congested areas of the island. In spite of its busy location, the beach is super easy to reach and a tranquil space during the off-season. While it may be crowded during the peak tourist season, the number of water-based activities available on Chaweng Beach makes a trip well worth the effort.
If there was an award for Koh Samui's quietest beaches, then Maenam Beach will be a top contender. As a peaceful seaside area that's a little out of the way, Maenam Beach has the distinct advantage of being an up-and-coming beach Mecca for the masses that is still breathtaking and free from large resorts crowding its shoreline. A world apart from Chaweng Beach, it is possible to chill out and relax for hours on end at Maenam Beach where beach vendors are also rarely spotted.
Situated on the southern shores of the island, Lamai Beach is another venue that's popular on Instagram feeds for very compelling reasons. As the second most visited beach in Koh Samui, Lamai Beach is only slightly less popular than Chaweng Beach, which holds the top spot. Within close range of the Hin Ta & Hin Yai Rocks as well as Koh Samui's iconic Overlap Stone Viewpoint, Lamai is a stunning beach all year round.
Located in the northern reaches of Koh Samui, Bophut Beach is perhaps best known for its crystal clear waters and contrasting white sands. Water sports lovers will be hard-pressed to find a better beach for their favourite activities as everything from flyboarding; banana boating and jet skiing tours are accessible here.
