How to plan a fun filled weekend in Colombo

They say it's a busy city, they say it's chaotic. But little do they know that it's also a beautiful city with many attractions to explore. This is about Colombo, Sri Lanka- the commercial capital of the country. Since many corporate buildings are located here, yes- Colombo is busy throughout the day. But, choose to spend at least one weekend here in Colombo with your mates when you are in Sri Lanka for that will have some amazing experiences in store for you.

Indulge in spiritualism and culture 

No one will expect to see religious and cultural charms in Colombo. But, Colombo has some great places such as the Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple that can relax your soul. It's a temple (Vihara) located on a river right in the heart of Colombo, and you will love to see the different types of Buddha statues placed in this place. Located a little far away from Colombo, Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya is also another place that you can visit if you need some additional touch of spiritualism. Colombo. in addition to the Buddhist temples, has many churches, mosques, and kovils (Hindu shrines) as well.

The beaches 

The most popular beach in Colombo is the Galle Face Green. It's one of the best public open places in Colombo, and you can spend one of your evenings here enjoying the view of the sunset. Do not forget to try out the famous 'Isso Wadei' when you are here from one of the local street food stalls located around. Mount Lavinia Beach is also located within a short distance of Colombo, and you may explore its beauty as well if you have enough time.

Have good food and a good time 

No one will disagree if someone says that Colombo has the best set of hotels and restaurants. So, during your weekend spent in Colombo, make sure you enjoy the world-class hospitality at one of its hotels. There is a wide range of hotels here, and you may select what suits best for you depending on your budget and other requirements. If you prefer to eat like a local, choose to enjoy the Sri Lankan traditional dishes, and do not miss out on the local street food as well.

Colombo nightlife 

Nightlife in Colombo is vibrant, colorful and so active. But it's never complete without a visit to Ballys Casino. It's the most luxurious casino in the country, and also the largest. If you wish to engage in table games, you can freely do so, and if you just need to enjoy the music while enjoying some drinks, you are most welcome to do so as well.

Shopping 

When you are in Colombo, how can you just miss out on shopping? Colombo is home to several shopping malls including the CCC (Colombo City Center), Liberty Plaza, Marino Mall, One Galle Face, and Majestic City where you can find all sorts of products and services that you need. Many of these malls also have a cinema and food courts, so food and entertainment will not be a problem for you at any moment. Whether it's about fashionable clothes, toys for kids, entertainment equipment, or electrical items, these Malls have them all, and you can buy all that you need under one roof which is easier!

Getting around in Colombo 

To get around the city, you have a number of options. If you prefer to go by bus (cheaper than all other modes), you may do so as Colombo is the hub for public transportation in Sri Lanka. For shorter distances, you can always choose to get tuk-tuks and this will also be a faster method. Taxi apps such as Uber and PickMe also are available for you to use.
