Visit the Kalutara Bodhiya

An important Buddhist site on the island, the Kalutara Bodhiya is a must-visit location among Kalutara attractions – where Buddhists from around the world flock to venerate the Lord Buddha. This religious site gains much significance as it is believed that the Bodhi Tree around which the temple has been built around, dates back to the second century B.C. According to Buddhist scriptures, it is believed that the sacred tree is one of the 32 saplings that came from the Jay Sri Maha Bodi. Explore Richmond Castle

A beautiful historic Edwardian mansion built between 1900 and 1910, Richmond Castle was once the home and the formal country seat of a local mudaliyar (local landowner). The sprawling mansion is a two-storied building, containing 16 rooms, 34 windows and 99 doors. Featuring intricate and decorative glass wear, rich floor tiles from Italy. Burmese teak and bathroom fittings and iron stairs from Britain, Richmond Castle is a true ode to wonderful craftsmanship. The mansion sits on a hill adjoining the picturesque Kalu Ganga River and comes replete with beautifully manicured gardens and lawns.

Sunbath at Kalutara Beach

Clean, and devoid of large crowds, Kalutara Beach is renowned for being one of the best beaches on Sri Lanka’s iconic south coast.
