Shwedagon Pagoda

Situated on Singuttara Hill in central Yangon, this is the most sacred Buddhist stupa in Myanmar and is a magnificent structure covered in golden leaves and studded with precious stones. It is believed that the pagoda was here since the 6th century AD and has a hair relic of the Lord Buddha ensconced within the inner chamber. Many visitors from five-star hotels in Yangon make it a point to visit this pagoda.

Inya Lake

This artificial lake is Yangon’s largest man-made lake and a sought-after picnic location for locals and visitors.  Also known as Victoria Lake this is an ideal place to catch the glory of the sunset from the lakeshore. By evening there are scores of people enjoying a cool stroll along this lake.

China Town

Created when the British were expanding the city during their occupancy in the 1850s, China Town or Tayoke Tan is off 19th Street in the downtown city area of Yangon. National Museum

Also known as Scott Market this market was built in 1926 during the period of British occupancy. Selling local art, antiques, vintage items, western garments, and ethnic longyi and cloth this is also a centre for selling rare gems of Myanmar such as rubies and jade. Ready-made garments can be altered, and new garments can be made to order from this market.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Maha Wizaya Pagoda

The Taukkyan War Cemetry

Situated in the village of the same name, a visit to this war cemetery is good to get a glimpse of how wars affected people. It is believed that the bodies of over 6000 soldiers of the Allied Forces were buried at this cemetery.
