While Beruwala may not have as many cultural highlights as Bentota or even Negombo, a visit to the historic Kechimalai Mosque is a must for those with an interest in the heritage of the area. Set up by Yemeni settlers who first came to the island on trade tours, this mosque is an architectural feat in its own right. Considered one of the most sacred Muslim shrines on the coast, Kechimalai Mosque also contains two tombs belonging to some of those early settlers who first established the mosque in Sri Lanka.
