5 Free Attractions in Khao Lak – Best freebies around Khao Lak

Khao Lak is a coastal paradise situated on the west coast of the Phang Nga Province in Thailand. Although the region has become a resort town, you can find plenty of stuff to do here without breaking the bank.

1

Bang Niang Beach

Taking a dip in the warm waters of Bang Niang is one of the best ways to spend your time in Khao Lak without paying an extra dime. Its sea is calm and perfect for long leisurely swims, while its sunsets are breathtaking. Khao Lak's beautiful surroundings make it an ideal place to indulge in snorkelling, which is a popular activity among visitors. You can spend your time in Khao Lak enjoying the scenic beauty while exploring the underwater world. You can also find lots of accommodation nearby, and places to tuck into a fine Thai meal overlooking the glorious beach. Out of the Khao Lak beach hotels, properties such as Avani+ Khao Lak Resort are among the best options available for tourists.

2

Pakarang Cape

The cape is in an enchanting secluded location towards the east of Khao Lak. You will encounter spectacular sea views with fishing vessels lined up on the horizon. This location is popular with couples, particularly due to its lovely sunsets. Nonetheless, the sea can be rough for swimming, but during low tide, you can walk further into the cape. If you are looking for a long sunset walk in a peaceful environment, Pakarang Cape is the place to be in Khao Lak.

3

Pak Weep Beach

This beach, located north of Coconut Beach, can be reached within fifteen minutes by cab from the city centre of Khao Lak. It is sometimes called Khao Lak's most family-friendly beach! You can find slides, climbing stands, swings, and toys hanging from the trees. The ocean is spotless and calm, making it perfect for families with young children.
About midway into the beach, there is a wooden bridge allowing you to walk right into the ocean. Nearby, there are plenty of restaurants and places to stay, and beachside Thai massages are another service available here.

4

Tsunami Boat 813

The Tsunami Boat 813 exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating Boxing Day tsunami that struck in 2004. Located in Bang Niang village, it's situated just across from the popular Bang Niang night market. The exhibition features a giant police ship, which was washed ashore during the tsunami and has since become a symbol of the disaster. The exhibition also includes photographs and reports that offer insight into the tragic event, making it a deeply moving and emotional experience. Situated 2 km from the beach, the memorial provides a stark illustration of the destruction wrought by the tsunami in this area.

5

Andaman Viewpoint

This secluded viewpoint is a hidden gem in Khao Lak. The view can get hazy at times, but with the sun right over the sea, it's the ideal location to witness the sunset. One of the best ways to get there is by scooter, while the viewpoint is located just before Bangsak Village toward the northern track away from the beach. There is also a sign to lead you to it. Although there is talk of a bar being built onsite, you will most likely find the place all to yourself.
