5 Tips for Getting Around in Dubai - Dubai Diaries

You only have 25km from the city center of Dubai to Dubai Marina, but getting to places in between is not easy. If you are unsure what mode of transportation has to be used when in Dubai, read this out. You are sure to find all the answers that you were looking for.

1

Dubai Metro

So far, this is the best, most accessible, and most affordable way to get around in Dubai. Dubai Metro runs through both underground and overground lines, and you will surely love everything about the metros when you are there. If you are taking your kids with you, keep in mind that Dubai Metros allow kids under 5 years to travel free of charge in them. The metros also carry a dedicated carriage for women and kids and they are often not very crowded (compared to other compartments).

2

Dubai Tram

Planning a vacation with your loved ones at Avani Palm View Dubai? Then, the Dubai Tram is something that you should try out definitely. The Tram also links with the Dubai metro because they have interconnecting stations in between. These too have carriages dedicated only to women and kids.

Dubai Taxis

If you are at any Palm Jumeirah hotel and prefer to head to someplace that cannot be accessed via metro or tram, you have Dubai taxis for your service. During the daytime, you can easily catch a taxi but, this will not be the same case at night (it'll be a little difficult as the availability is less). If the taxi has a yellow board illuminated on the roof, it says it's available for hire. You can also book them on the central booking numbers.

The waterways

Did you know that you can also get around Dubai by ferry, waterbus, and water taxi? The modern Dubai Ferry operates between Bur Dubai and Dubai Marina. For the whole journey, you need around 75 minutes and this is an amazing experience. For shorter distances, you can also use water buses- but please note that you can't use the general Nol cards here.

*Somewhere very recently, the latest waterway mode- water taxis were introduced and Dubai has a total of 32 water taxi stations so far. They don't have scheduled timetables. When you need their service, you have to call the hotline to book a ride and then get around. Normally a water taxi can take 8-10 people at once.

Dubai buses

The thing about Dubai buses is that they are designed for low-paid ex-pat employees who are in Dubai. So, the routes they cover are structured, and sometimes they may not be so applicable to casual travelers. Travelers, of course, can take their service if needed. You will love how the bus shelters in Dubai have been designed because they are air-conditioned and contain an important map of the bus network. There are buses that are traveling to other destinations beyond Dubai as well, and their rates are also affordable. Nol cards are accepted by the buses, so it's easy and convenient to everyone.
