Best 05 Things to Do in Kandy on Your Vacation - Kandy diaries

Located in the most beautiful Central province of Sri Lanka, Kandy is indeed one destination that you should surely visit at least once in your lifetime. You may take a train, bus, or even any private transportation mode to travel to Kandy and go around the city by busses or tuk-tuks. Everything you see and explore in this ancient city will catch your heart, and you will forever remember these sweet memories.

1

Visit Sri Dalada Maligawa

The Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic (also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa) is one of the most honoured places in Sri Lanka. The Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha has been housed here for thousands of years, and this is why this attraction is considered full of blessings. Basically put, it's a temple, but it looks more like a royal palace mainly because of the elegance it has. Dalada Perahera is one of the main events that gets organized by this temple every year (in August), and if you get to see this procession at least once in your life, you are incredibly fortunate. This procession is all about the pride of the Sri Lankan culture.

2

Explore the Kandy Lake

Located just outside the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic is the infamous Kandy Lake. Bounded by a royal-looking, elegant wall, this Lake covers a wide area, and the whole site of it is so mind-relaxing and smoothing. Walking around the lake alone or with a loved one in your life is complete therapy and you should do this on a fine evening for sure. Feed the fish in the lake with bread or popcorn, and this is again a mind-relaxing activity.

3

Explore the Udawatte Kele Sanctuary

When you are done worshiping the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic, take a tuk-tuk to Udawatte Kele Sanctuary and you will be there in less than 20 minutes. Udawatte Kele is a forest area that is well-maintained and you can explore a wide variety of trees and animals here. Out of all animals you find here, you will love the monkeys because they try their best to grab your attention and sympathy by doing some funny acts. But do not have any close encounters with them when you are here, or feed them with food items, because it's prohibited.

4

Enjoy the Kandyan hospitality

Kandy is a city with a different vibe, and you will sense this as soon as you approach the city. So, why not spend a day or two at one of the hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and enjoy the best authentic hospitality? You may select a hotel with good reviews such as Cinnamon Citadel Kandy and spend a blissful staycation alone or with your loved ones. Go to their spa and enjoy a relaxing time, eat the best of local dishes, and let your taste buds dance in joy while also meeting new guests and having friendly chats with them.

5

Explore the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

The biggest one of its kind, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens (located a few Kilo Meters from the city of Kandy) is another great experience for you during your Kandy tour. You get to enjoy the sights of over 5000 different species of flowers some of which can only be seen in this garden. Since this is surrounded by the largest river in Sri Lanka, the Mahaweli, the relaxing vibe you get to enjoy here is irreplaceable.
