5 Famous Thai Street Foods That You Need to Try in Krabi – Try the awesome flavours of Krabi street specials!

Situated on the West coast of southern Thailand, Krabi has a cuisine of rich and unique flavours which are distinctly southern, unlike the food in northern or central Thailand. Krabi is renowned for its seafood dishes with the fertile waters of the Andaman Sea offering an abundance of fresh seafood.

1

Tom Yum Soup

This hot and sour Thai soup is a signature dish in Thailand. Using aromatic herbs and spices generously in the broth such as lemongrass, galangal, and lime leaves among many other ingredients it is usually made with shrimp as seafood is a staple in Krabi, however, with innovations this famous clear soup now comes with chicken, pork and even beef and is relished as a filling meal by visitors at Phi Phi Island resorts. Another version of this soup enjoyed by most locals and visitors is making a creamy broth by adding coconut milk.

2

Khao Phat or Stir-fried Rice

This easy-to-eat and beautifully presented street food is enjoyed for lunch and dinner. Made usually with fragrant Thai jasmine rice, rather than the traditional long-grained rice, the dish contains seafood such as crab, prawns or shrimp and various sauces such as soy, oyster and others to give it a rich and spicy flavour making it distinctly a southern preparation. Different street stalls may do variations such as adding shredded meat making the dish a combination of many flavours. Translucent and aromatic onions, garlic and finely chopped peppers tossed in the rice give added zest. Accompanied by sliced cucumber and tomatoes this makes an awesome meal.

3

Som Tam or spicy Green Papaya Salad

This is another hot favourite among the locals and is well enjoyed by visitors at Saii Phi Phi Island Village. The light, fresh and colourful salad is full of flavour as the ingredients are pounded using the traditional mortar and pestle extracting the sour, spicy and savoury flavours. Shredded green papaya (using raw papaya), chilli, peanuts, garlic and lime juice are used in this healthy salad along with tomatoes and served with Thai sticky rice and grilled meat.

4

Satay

Another sought-after street food in Krabi is satay on skewers, mostly made from bamboo. Skewers of meat and even seafood at some street stalls are fast-selling items. The awesome flavour of this easy-to-consume street food is in its marinade using authentic Thai spices and red curry paste, salt, sugar, soy sauce and vinegar. The thoroughly marinated meat or seafood is slowly grilled over an open flame emanating a mouthwatering aroma drawing eager customers. Served with peanut sauce this is a divine snack and a must-try street food.

5

Mango Sticky Rice

For those who are lovers of sweets, this is a fine concoction to try. Thai sticky rice is cooked in creamy coconut milk until it becomes a soft white glutinous mass. Little portions of this are garnished with chopped mango and sesame seeds and drizzled with a sweet sauce made with coconut milk and sugar p this makes a delicious dessert, especially after a spicy meal.
