Tse’hlanyane National Park

Underrated as its underused, Tse’hlanyeane National Park happens to be the largest park in the country and sits protected at high altitude. The park which spans  a whopping 5600 hectares includes Lesotho’s only indigenous forest - where a number of undergrowth plants unique to this region grow with abandon. Many hotels the likes of Avani Lesotho Hotel & Casino will be happy to arrange an excursion to the park upon the requests of their guests.

Katse Dam and Botanical Gardens

Among the more popular things to do in Lesotho, includes visiting Katse Dam – a centrepiece of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project – the biggest engineering project in the southern hemisphere whihc took place durig the 1990’s.  The project oversees the transfer of water from the highlands via an incredible conduit of tunnels and dams through the Lesotho mountain range – gradually dispelling the water to the vast plains of South Africa.  Activities to enjoy during your time in Katse include a boat trip on the waters of the Katse Dam, a tour of the dam wall, exploring the Katse Botanical Gardens, horse riding and possibly a visit to a local village.

Lesotho is renowned for being the world’s largest known sites of dinosaur footprints – making this small country a favourite of both palaeontologists, and archaeologists. The very first discovery of dinosaur fossils were made by missionaries  exploraing the country – some major locations to take in dinosaur footprints include Subeng Stream , Morija, Moyeni, Leribe, Matsient and Masitise. Thaba -Bosiu

Known as the Mountain of the Night, Thaba-Bosiu is a national Monument .Considered to be the birthplace of the Basotho nation, Thaba – Bosiu is by far one of the most importance historical sites to take in while Lesotho.  Once the stronghold of, ‘’Moshoeshoe the Great,’’ Thaba- Bosiu offers fantastic views of the surrounding countryside which are best enjoyed during sunset.

Semonkong Falls

Also called the Maletsunyane Falls, the Semonkong Falls is the highest single drop in all of South Africa and is renowned for offering panoramic vistas of the unspoilt scenery surrounding this attraction. Those keen to visit this picturesque waterfall can do so via a five kilometre walk along the banks of the Maletsunyane River – where along the way, you will get the opportunity to take in the stunning site of the river water cascading 204 meters down into a serene pool below. The best time to visit the falls is during summer – where one can delight in splashing about in the water. Come winter season, the water freezes, and splashes against the rocks below in the form of ice – forming a magnificent ice cage over the pool!
