Hiking in Hong Kong: Trails, Mountains, and Stunning Views – Have your fill of the landscapes and beautiful vistas!

The city-state of Hong Kong is a lively and progressive one with energy about it as one can see from the bustling streets, markets, and huge malls. Yet Hong Kong is also full of open spaces, forest-covered mountains, and exciting trails awaiting curious visitors to explore the enchantment of nature.

1

Dragon’s Back Trail

Considered a moderately challenging one, this meandering trail on the ridge of Dragon’s Back is popular as one of Hong Kong’s best hiking trails and is open year around. Many guests from hotels in Wan Chai Hong Kong join this exciting trail. The sightseeing platform close to the peak of Dragon’s Back offers awesome views of the southern shoreline of Hong Kong. If you are so inclined have a swim in the Big Wave Bay at the end of the trail for a refreshing experience or even try riding the waves.

2

Jardine’s Lookout and Mount Butler Trail

This trail of approximately 3.1 km distance near eastern Wan Chai is another moderately challenging trail which takes roughly 90 minutes to complete both ways. As it is a popular area for walking as well as hiking many locals and visitors will be seen on this trail. Standing at the crest of each you are able to witness a 360-degree view of the island, Kowloon Peninsula and the bustling Victoria Harbour.

3

The Peak Trail

This walking trail commences amidst the city’s hilltops and provides not only the exciting activity of climbing but also noteworthy information with well-placed signage carrying plenty of details about the ecology of the environment such as flora you would encounter on the way. Although this trail can be done during the day, doing it as dusk begins to fall is ideal to catch the enchantment of the city lights of Hong Kong being turned on to twinkle amidst the Victoria Harbour and various high-rise buildings of the city. A trail of approximately 4 km up and down, this is a favourite one of guests at Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong.

Bride’s Pool Hike

Situated near Tai Mei Tuk in the New Territories, Bride’s Pool is a 15-metre-high breathtakingly beautiful waterfall with an amazingly inviting 2-metre plunge pool at the base. This makes it possible to do the hike which is a short one of less than 30 minutes and enjoy a swim and have a picnic near the plunge pool or even do a barbecue with a group of friends.

5

Lantau Trail

Starting and ending in Mui Wo, this incredible trail covers Lantau Peak and Sunset Peak both offering spectacular views, well-marked tracks and changing landscapes and witness noteworthy landmarks and sites such as the Big Buddha statue, and the charming fishing village of Tai O. With the total trail covering 70 km, it is worth to pick different sections from this trail, with 12 sections available in all. Choose the sections to give you insights into the terrains you wish to experience be it nature with water bodies or picking a trail between easy, moderate, and challenging and the would-be duration for each section.
