This is my own private list of cool spots in Greifswald, Mecklenburg West Pommerania. All opinions expressed here are my private pov's and do not claim any truth or universality.
The Ravic is a Greifswald institution, the "living room" of the city and usually open until early morning. It is mostly non-smoking but has a cozy separate smokers room. There is also a small backyard nice to hang around during summer nights. Ravic is a night bar and starting from 10pm, more and more night owls are dropping in or having a drink before moving on to a club. It can get pretty packed, the interior is a mindboggling style mix of picked furniture and arbitrary items. The drinks are very affordable and the bar keepers are the best in town. Take note, Ravic is not a coctail bar but there is a good selection of tapped and bottled beer, long drinks, shoots etc. For the late hunger there is knackwurst and bockwurst, fries and baguette available at all times. Ravic is not a student-only bar but gives space for everyone without bounds. Later after midnight the whole thing can easily escalate into a wild party - it all arises out of the moment. Here an then, there is karaoke night, bingo night or sometimes life music.
Deja Vu is popular night bar open until very late. This is a good coctail bar but also offers a good display of beer and other drinks. The comptoir is broad and long and very inviting, the atmosphere is quite underground and has grown organically since the opening in the early 2000th. There is a mixed crowd, often rather on the younger (non student) side and ready to party. Deja Vu is a smokers bar and is often very packed during the night. In the staged sequence of rooms, there is a decent pool table, a very popular kicker table, and quite professional darts facilities. The entrance is a bit difficult to find, at the side of the Domstrasse with a simple door and very little advertisment saying "deja vu".
The "Husche" is another local institution. The interior is a blast, full of crazy items and pictures, from ceiling to floor, everything taking a bath in light projections. The room is split into individual cabinets, each with its own character, that provide seats for 6-12 people. Thanks to the glass windows the rooms still comes across as a unity. The bar offers an excellent display of bottled beer (including "Augustiner") and long drinks at very reasonable price. Don't miss the Husche classic "fuji" (a mix of Coke and Wilthener Goldkrone Brandy) for 1€ if ordered together with a beer. There are frequently life DJ sets played and the music taste stlye progressive electronic. The "Husche" is a smokers bar but not smelly thanks to a powerful air conditioning system.
Hidden downstairs in the basement of one of the historical buildings in the Fleischerstrasse is "Gleich Acht". The bar is relatively small, a historic vault used for storage of food and wine. The bar has a nice display of high-quality long drinks, some truely excellent coctails (try the Caipirinhas), shots and bottled beer. Occasionally there are life solo concerts. As a special feature "Gleich Acht" offers to the guests a wide range of board games for free use. The bar is often packed and one has to be lucky to catch a table - but it's always worth the try.
Popular bar, mostly visited by students. The "Westend" has a decent range of long drinks, some coctails, soft drinks and beer. Its interior is dominated by comfy chairs and layed-back atmosphere with usually pretty good "all time classic" music playing. There is a good pool table in the back room, which is usually very busy. Closes at about 2ish in the morning - Sunday closed.
Coctail and beer pub with mostly metal and punk music. It's a good place to hang out, visited by a mixed crowd, and has friendly staff.
One of the first coctail bars established in the city. Its interior is dominated by black lounge sofas and chairs. The spacious bar is quite inviting for a night hang out. There is a broad display of coctails, also coffee and tea in the afternoon and sometimes life music in the evenings.
