Everyone wants flawless skin, but the truth is it takes time, effort and more
importantly - guidance. The world of skincare is incredibly confusing, but as a
Skin Specialist it is our job to guide you and help you achieve your dream
complexion. Therefore, these are our top tips for the best skin of your life.
The first and most important skincare tip we can give you is to make sure you
are using a broad-spectrum SPF (Sun Protection Factor) that is at least factor 30,
every single day. SPF must be applied every day, because UV rays can harm our skin even through clouds and windows, not just when we are outside in the sun. There really is no way to escape harmful rays unless you are using daily SPF, so protecting yourself is your best option.
If you want your skin to look good and age well, you must view it as an
investment and choose to invest in it. Monthly visits to a Skin Specialist/Aesthetician for advanced skincare treatments
will help your skin look the best it possibly can. To book in for one of
our treatments, visit www.saintlyskincare.com.
Tempted to squeeze that spot or peel that piece of dry skin off? I know it’s
difficult not to, but don’t! You will cause scarring, Post Inflammatory
Hyperpigmentation (PIH) or Post Inflammatory Erythema (PIE), which are forms
of Hyperpigmentation caused by trauma to the skin. Already picked and caused scarring? We can help with treatments including chemical peels, microneedling or LED Light Therapy at our
clinic.
Exercise is fantastic for moderating stress and hormones, which are two factors
that we know can cause skin issues. It is recommended that we aim for 3-5 30-
minute workouts per week on a consistent basis. Exercise helps skin by
improving blood flow to the body and enables the skin to get the required
nutrients and oxygen.
Any excuse to sleep! When we are sleep deprived, inflammation in the body rises
and our skin generally gets worse as a result. Research shows inflammation is
significantly higher in those who get less than 6 hours sleep than those who got
7-8 hours sleep, so even more reason to get an early night or allow yourself lie
in.
If you are suffering with a skin condition or would like to improve your skin in
general, eating an anti-inflammatory diet would be beneficial. This is a diet rich
in whole foods such as fruit, vegetables (especially dark leafy greens), omega-3
fatty acids including fatty fish, lean protein, seeds, olive oil, celery juice and tofu
to name only a few.
As a former Psychotherapist working in mental health services, I can’t express
enough how damaging chronic stress is to our health. Not only does stress cause
us mental distress, but it affects us physiologically too, which affects our skin.
By implementing these 7 tips, we guarantee your skin will be absolutely glowing
and you will be getting compliments left, right and centre.
