Beach time fun

The beach at Passikudah is a sight to behold! Its turquoise-blue coastline is shallow, calm and protected by coral reefs that are made for swimming and water activities. The name Passikudah means "green algae bay'' and its palm-fringed bay is the ideal beachside destination for divers and lovers of water sports. Activities like scuba diving, water skiing, boogie boarding and kite surfing are some of the popular options available. If you're looking for places to stay, check out Amethyst Resort Passikudah or a similarly located Passikudah resort for convenience.

Enjoy the Beaches of Passikudah

Passikudah boasts some of the most stunning beaches in Sri Lanka. The crystal-clear waters and fine white sand make it the perfect spot for a day of relaxation and water sports. You can take a leisurely stroll along the beach or go swimming, snorkelling, or windsurfing. For those seeking some adventure, try kite surfing, jet skiing, or banana boat rides. There are plenty of beachfront restaurants and cafes where you can grab a bite to eat or enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking up the sun.

Located in the southeastern corner of Passikudah Bay, Passikudah Reef is a must-visit for diving enthusiasts. This reef offers a diverse range of hard and soft corals, as well as a variety of fish such as damselfish, butterflyfish, cardinal fish, snappers, and sweetlips. With a depth of at least 8 metres, it's an excellent spot for nighttime diving. Passikudah Reef is also home to some of the more exotic species of marine life such as the lionfish, trumpetfish, and octopus. The crystal-clear waters of the reef make it an ideal location for underwater photography and videography. For those who aren't keen on diving, glass-bottomed boat tours are available to view the stunning underwater ecosystem without getting wet.

Discover the British Sergeant Wreckage

The British Sergeant wreckage site is a famous diving spot that dates back to WWII. The remains of the British ship, which sank during a Japanese raid in 1942, can be explored here. The site also features remnants of the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes. Divers can spot a range of marine life such as bigeye snappers, batfish, groupers, and mangrove snappers. Sea anemones and clownfish can be found on the sides of the wreck, while trevally can be seen hunting for prey.

Tour Batticaloa Fort

Built by the Portuguese and later occupied by the Dutch and British colonialists, Batticaloa Fort is a historical landmark. The fort overlooks the lagoon and canal, and within its walls are government buildings and a stupa. Visitors to Batticaloa Fort can explore the well-preserved ruins of the old European-style buildings and fortifications. The fort also offers stunning views of the surrounding area, including the lagoon and the Indian Ocean beyond. In addition to its historical significance, the fort is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area.
