Top 5 Must-try Thai Dishes in Khao Lak - Discovering the flavours of Thailand!

Salty, sweet, spicy, sour and creamy are the five distinct flavours that make up Thai cuisine. It is without a doubt the harmony between these flavours that makes this cuisine special. Here are our most cherished Thai dishes available at restaurants in Khao Lak:

1

Tom Yum Goong

A hot soup known as "Tom Yum" is often prepared with prawns ("Goong"). Tom Yum Goong is packed with flavour because of the combination of ingredients like lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, galangal, tomatoes, chilli peppers, and a variety of other herbs and vegetables. Tom Yum Goong, like all other Thai dishes, is meant to be shared with others. After placing a few spoonfuls of each component in a separate small bowl for yourself, proceed to layer your rice with the soup, veggies, and prawns, and then dig in! Pour the small bowls of food for each person at your table, beginning with the person who is the oldest. This is an important part of Thai culture.

2

Gaeng Poo Bai Chaplu

If you find yourself in Phang Nga or Phuket, you just cannot leave without sampling this Southern Thai speciality. Betel leaves and a flavourful yellow curry are cooked together with chunks of crab meat to create a delicious dish. The end result is a flavour explosion, which will leave you wanting more. Having said that, you shouldn't forget that this dish is intended to be passed around the table too! In popular Khao Lak restaurants offered by the likes of Avani+ Khao Lak Resort, you will have the opportunity to sample each of these traditional Thai dishes.

3

Pad Thai

Pad Thai is a stir-fried noodle dish that is popular all over the world. It is traditionally prepared with prawns or chicken and includes bean sprouts, eggs, and peanuts. On top of it, chilli flakes may be sprinkled according to personal preference. Pressing a lime wedge over it will provide one more layer of flavour. Within Thailand, "Pad Thai" may be prepared somewhat differently from one location to the next, with some places using thinner noodles and other areas using thicker noodles.

4

Massaman Gai

Massaman Curry is a fragrant and delicious dish. Chicken, carrots, potatoes, and peanuts are the typical ingredients found in this sweet curry dish. The sweetness originates from the combination of curry and coconut milk. After being brought to a boil, the Curry may then be left to simmer till the chicken and all the other ingredients are fully cooked, at which point it is ready to be served. Serve over rice that has been cooked and enjoy!

5

Tom Kha Gai

"Tom Kha" is another type of hot soup that is traditionally made with chicken ("Gai"). It perfectly encapsulates the myriad of flavours that are synonymous with Thai cuisine. Coconut milk, lemongrass, mushrooms, kaffir lime leaf, galangal, and a variety of other herbs and veggies are included as ingredients in this dish. Tom Kha Gai might be quite sweet due to the use of coconut milk, or it can be somewhat spicy due to the use of chilli peppers. In addition to the way it tastes, just the aroma is enough to get your stomach growling for more.
