A hot soup known as "Tom Yum" is often prepared with prawns ("Goong"). Tom Yum Goong is packed with flavour because of the combination of ingredients like lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, galangal, tomatoes, chilli peppers, and a variety of other herbs and vegetables. Tom Yum Goong, like all other Thai dishes, is meant to be shared with others. After placing a few spoonfuls of each component in a separate small bowl for yourself, proceed to layer your rice with the soup, veggies, and prawns, and then dig in! Pour the small bowls of food for each person at your table, beginning with the person who is the oldest. This is an important part of Thai culture.
