05 Things to Do in Koh Samui Vacation – A perfect island retreat

Beautiful Koh Samui is the perfect island retreat for those seeking rest and relaxation, with gorgeous beaches, stunning waterfalls, fascinating temples and modern amenities to boot! Planning a visit to this divine island anytime soon? Here is a great list of some must-do activities whilst there!

1

Experience some downtown in Chaweng Beach

Koh Samui truly is an idyllic beach vacation spot in Thailand. Blessed with white sandy shores, Chaweng Beach is by far the most popular and with good reason. With an expansive stretch of coastline shaded by swaying palm trees, Chaweng Beach is separated into four parts, North, South, Central and Little. For those keen on being in the very heart of the action, this is the spot to be in. Spend your day sunbathing sea kayaking or snorkelling in the gin-clear waters. The waters in Chaweng Beach are exceptionally calm making it ideal to try some stand-up paddleboarding if you are up for it. By the time dusk rolls in the party scene comes alive so why not try a spot of bar hopping?

2

Take in the grandfather & grandmother rocks in Lamai Beach

Located in Lamai Beach – the quieter counterpart of Chaweng Beach, the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks are famous Koh Samui attractions. Apart from taking in these unique rock formations, one can experience laid-back Thai beach life, as Lamai Beach tends to attract a more relaxed set of beachgoers. Lamai Beach is also great for swimming, snorkelling and sampling fresh seafood fare at any one of its plentiful beach bars and restaurants in Koh Samui.

3

See the Big Buddha Temple

The Wat Phra Yai Temple is one of Koh Samui's key attractions and visiting it is a must-do activity while there. Rising over 12 meters in height, the Big Buddha statue was built in 1972. Interestingly the attraction is located on the island of Koh Faan and only connected to Koh Samui via a long causeway. Hotels such as the Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort will be more than happy to arrange for a visit if requested by their guests.

4

Take a Thai cooking class

A great way to truly immerse oneself in any foreign culture is through its cuisine. So, what better way to learn all about it than by taking a fun Thai cooking class? Generally, a cooking session would include visiting a local market, picking out fresh produce, herbs and other required ingredients with your instructor and then learning how to prepare some authentic Thai fare. Most cooking classes in Koh Samui generally cover top traditional Thai dishes including Thai green curry, som tam (papaya salad) and panang curry among others.

5

Treat yourself to a traditional Thai massage

No matter where one finds themselves in Thailand, a traditional Thai massage should be on your list and the island of Koh Samui is certainly no exception. Here one can find plenty of spas from smaller massage parlours lining the streets to more high-end spas in Koh Samui resorts. The best part is that Thai massages are super affordable and are a great way to pamper yourself!
