Located in the heart of central Seoul, Gwanghwamun Square is a public area for you to go on a leisurely stroll. It features beautiful surrounding views, restaurants, statues and museums. This square was redesigned by bordering it with Sejong-ro street. You will find a pedestrian only area which is designed in a way to connect with surrounding scenery like the Bukaksan Mountain. You will find Gwanghwamun Gate and Gyeongbokgung Palace at the northern end. Gyeongbokgung Palace is regarded as the largest of the five most historical places in South Korea. Prepare your senses to visit a historical landmark known as the jewel of Korean history. This palace keeps its majesty in the central point of Seoul. A historical incident treasured by native Koreans is the fact that the Korean alphabet named ‘Hangul’ has been created in this palace during the reign of King Sejong.
Located close to the Gyeongbokgung palace stands the Changdeokgung Palace. It is known to be the second most popular palace in Seoul. The palace of illustrious virtue! You will be offered eye-catching natural scenery. ‘Huwon’ or the secret garden in the palace is the most appreciated part of this palace. What makes the Buyongjeong design unique is the two supporting pillars and a cross-shaped roof rising from the pond.
Visit the famous shrine known as “protector of King's spirits”. This is where the spirit tablets of Joseon queens and kings were held. It is said that Jeongjeon, the main shrine built in 1395 preserves the spirits of Joseon Kings and Queens. When you enter the palace, expect to feel the mysterious and solemn atmosphere coming from the two ponds and empty path.
This village is located between the two main palaces called Changdeokgun and Gyeongbokgung. It gathers around 800 and 900 traditional Korean houses. You will have to go up a little to explore the village but you will not regret it. Once you step foot in this part of the country, you will feel how Korean life was during the Joseon dynasty – 600 years ago.
