Gyeongbokgung palace

Prepare your senses to visit a historical landmark known as the jewel of Korean history. Gyeongbokgung Palace is regarded as the largest of the five most historical places in South Korea. This palace keeps its majesty in the central point of Seoul. It was built during the Joseon Dynasty (1395) under King Taejo’s orders. Another historical incident treasured by native Koreans is the fact that the Korean alphabet named ‘Hangul’ has been created in this palace during the reign of King Sejong. This king is respected by Koreans as he has rendered an invaluable service to develop the country and fields of technology, art, science, and law.

Changdeokgung Palace

The palace of illustrious virtue! Located close to the Gyeongbokgung palace stands the Changdeokgung Palace. It is known to be the second most popular palace in Seoul. The history of this palace dates back to 1405 and it used to be a second residence for kings and queens. ‘Huwon’ or the secret garden in the palace is the most appreciated part of this palace. You will be offered eye-catching natural scenery. There is a large pond named Buyongji in the middle of the garden. What makes the Buyongjeong design unique is the two supporting pillars and a cross-shaped roof rising from the pond. Bukchon Hanok Village

After spending an interesting time visiting the palaces of Seoul, spare some time to stroll around a traditional Korean village. This village is located between the two main palaces called Changdeokgun and Gyeongbokgung. It gathers around 800 and 900 traditional Korean houses. You will have to go up a little to explore the village but you will not regret it. Once you step foot in this part of the country, you will feel how Korean life was during the Joseon dynasty – 600 years ago. Back in time, the village was a residential area of high-ranking influential families, nobles, and government officials.

Jongmyo Shrine

Visit the famous shrine known as “protector of King's spirits”. This is where the spirit tablets of Joseon queens and kings were held. It is said that Jeongjeon, the main shrine built in 1395 preserves the spirits of Joseon Kings and Queens. This is aUNESCO-recognizedd heritage site gathering 49 spirit tablets of renowned kings and lesser-known kings in Korea. When you enter the palace, expect to feel the mysterious and solemn atmosphere coming from the two ponds and empty path.

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and Palace

Located an hour’s drive away from southern Seoul, this landmark is popular for its World Heritage-listed fortifications (Joseon dynasty). It is said that King Jeongjo who was in power in this palace is known to be one of the most successful rulers of the Joseon dynasty as he was a visionary leader. Suwon Hwaseong Fortress fortress stands as the reflection of the king's power.
