Coming across as an essential component of Ayurvedic massages, the Pizhichil initially assesses the patient’s present state of health before deciding on which type of medicated oil to be used. Upon gathering a clear understanding, the therapist will then proceed to add warm massage oil into a special form of vessel which is called a ‘Kindi.’ A feature which is unique to the Pizhichil, the Kindi is then placed a few inches above the body of the person hoping to receive this massage. As a result of the rhythmic movements and oil, the person will begin to perspire which is a state required to stabilise the Vata Dosha. With reference to the health benefits that one can obtain from the Pizhichil massage, improved digestion, alleviation of joint pain and a wide array of neurological conditions in the likes of paralysis, monoplegia and paraplegia can be well taken care of.
